The Lost Stream

Benjamin Tackett June 21, 2020

Summertime in Newark tends to get uncomfortably hot and if you don’t have a pool, what are you going to do? Well, I suggest taking a trip to The Lost Stream. It is a section of the White Clay Creek that has a waterfall with a waterslide and it is deep enough for swimming.

The Lost Stream is one of my favorite hidden gems. The Creek has a man-made waterfall that is more of a waterslide. It’s a fun place to hang out in the shallow water up top and then slide down the concrete waterfall into the pool of water at the bottom. There’s also some good tanning spots and a beach like area on the side of the Creek. Plus, if you get bored, you can do some hiking on the trails in the area as well.

Located back behind the University of Delaware and just north of Cleveland Avenue, it’s not too hard to find your way to this secret place. Follow Creek Road past the s-bend and park at the first lot on the right. From there take the trail past the gate and hike about a quarter mile and the trail will open up right at The Lost Stream.

Alternatively, you can follow the Pomeroy and Newark Rail-Trail north towards White Clay Creek State Park and you will end up at the same spot as driving along Creek Road.

This is a perfect place to take kids. The water isn’t moving fast and there aren’t any dangerous animals like snakes or bears. Your kids will love the water so much you might need to drag them away, kicking and screaming of course.
